Your Little Slice of Paradise in Nosara

March 2026

The World Is a Lot Right Now. You Deserve a Place to Breathe.

There's a particular kind of exhaustion that doesn't come from working too hard or sleeping too little. It comes from carrying the weight of uncertainty — from watching headlines scroll by, flight delays stack up, and the general sense that the world has become harder to navigate than it used to be.

If you've felt that lately, you're not imagining it. And you're not alone.

What you might be imagining — and probably dismissing as impractical — is the idea of actually getting away. Of pressing pause. Of letting the noise fall quiet for a week while you remember what it feels like to just be somewhere beautiful.

We want to gently tell you: that's not a luxury. That's medicine.

You Don't Have to Go Far to Go Far Away

One of the quiet gifts of this particular corner of Costa Rica is how completely it removes you from everything familiar — not through distance alone, but through atmosphere. Playa Pelada isn't a resort destination with a swim-up bar and a gift shop selling keychains. It's a small, unhurried stretch of coastline on the Nicoya Peninsula where the rhythm of the day is set by the tides, not the clock.

You wake up here and something shifts. Maybe it's the sound — howler monkeys in the canopy before your alarm ever goes off. Maybe it's the iguana walking unhurriedly across your path like it has nowhere to be and neither, it turns out, do you. Maybe it's the way the light comes through the trees in the morning and makes everything feel like it was arranged just for this moment.

Whatever it is, it works.

Getting Here Is Simpler Than You Think

We know — air travel right now feels like an Olympic sport you didn't train for. Delays, cancellations, crowded terminals, uncertainty at every gate. It's enough to make anyone give up on the idea of going anywhere.

But here's what we've watched happen over and over: guests who almost didn't come, who almost talked themselves out of it, who land in Liberia or San José and feel the shift the moment the warm air hits them. The journey is worth it. And once you're in Nosara, the car you rented becomes an adventure rather than a commute. The bumpy road to Playa Pelada becomes part of the story.

The world's complications don't disappear. They just stop being the most important thing on your mind.

Small. Genuine. Yours for a Week.

Our casitas aren't fancy in the way that word usually gets used. They're comfortable, thoughtfully cared for, and designed so that the outside is always part of the inside — open air, natural materials, the sound of the ocean close enough to find your way to it barefoot at sunrise.

The people here are kind. That's not marketing language — it's simply true. Neighbors wave. The woman at the pulpería knows your name by day two. Dinner at a local soda costs almost nothing and tastes like someone made it because they wanted to, not because they had to. The community around Playa Pelada and greater Nosara has built something rare: a place that welcomes strangers warmly and means it.

You're Allowed to Rest

We live in a culture that has made busyness a virtue and rest feel like a confession. But the research is clear, and more importantly, your body already knows it: stepping away from the noise — genuinely away, in a place that asks nothing of you — restores something that grinding through another week simply cannot.

You don't need a reason to take a break beyond the fact that you need one.

Playa Pelada will be here. The monkeys will be loud in the morning. The tide will come in and go out. The iguanas will walk across your path with that magnificent indifference. And for a week, none of the things that felt so heavy will follow you here.

That's the point. That's the whole point.

We'd love to have you. Come see what quiet feels like.  Click here and see you soon!

Costa Rica Claims Second Spot in Global Travel Rankings

If you needed yet another reason to visit our beautiful country, Costa Rica just earned SECOND PLACE in the Wanderlust Readers’ Travel Awards for the most desirable country in the world. Voters selected Costa Rica for its natural features and travel options.

What did we stand out for specifically?  Costa Rica stood out for its forests, coastlines, and outdoor activities.  We also ranked high in other areas. Costa Rica took second in adventure destinations and second in sustainability. In nature and wildlife, it placed eighth. "These positions reflect our country’s focus on conservation, with over 25 percent of its land under protection. National parks and reserves draw visitors interested in hiking, birdwatching, and marine life."

The Wildlife Roommates You Didn’t Know You'd Have in  Pelada

When you book a stay in Playa Pelada, you're signing up for more than just sun, surf, and stunning sunsets. You’re also moving into a thriving neighborhood... full of locals with tails, wings, scales, and attitude! 🦎🦋🐒

Here’s a peek at the kinds of wild roommates you might encounter — and why we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Iguana: Your Sunbathing Buddy

If you spot a hefty lizard doing an excellent impression of a beach bum, congratulations — you've met the local iguana.

They like to hang out on warm rocks, rooftops, and sometimes casually strut across the pool deck like they own the place (because... they kinda do).

Pro tip: No need to be scared — they’re just working on their tan, same as you.

The Monkey: Alarm Clock Extraordinaire

Who needs an alarm clock when you have a family of howler monkeys living nearby?
Their deep, prehistoric roars sound way bigger than they actually are.
Think of them as your jungle hype team, announcing the start of another beautiful day in paradise.
(Note: They take their job very seriously. Like, 5 AM seriously.)

The Moth: Surprise Guest at the Garden Party

Nosara’s gardens are fluttering with colorful butterflies — and sometimes giant, slightly confused moths who thought they were invited to the party.
(Spoiler alert: They're always invited.)
They float by like pieces of living art and remind you that here, even "crashers" make things better.

The Toad: Nighttime Party Crasher

As the sun sets and the jungle comes alive, you might meet a toad or two hopping along your path.
Don’t worry — they’re just out for a stroll, maybe singing backup for the tree frogs.
(And they take their jobs very seriously too... sometimes right on your doorstep.)

And So Many More…

Coatis, armadillos, pizotes, colorful crabs, mesmerizing lizards, and if you're really lucky, maybe even a sloth on a slow-motion adventure across the trees!
Here in Nosara and Pelada, nature isn’t just nearby — it’s part of the experience.  Book your stay at Casa Cielo or Casa Mar and experience for yourself.

What to Pack for Nosara: A Local’s Guide

Packing for Nosara isn’t like packing for a big city—it’s a mix of laid-back, beachy, and just a little wild. Whether you're coming for yoga, surf, or simply sun and slow mornings with coffee, here’s what we recommend bringing (and what you can leave behind).

☀️ Lightweight, Easy Breezy Clothing
Think quick-drying, breathable fabrics. It gets hot here—tank tops, linen, and comfy cover-ups are your best friends. Skip the high heels and bring sandals, flip-flops, or lightweight sneakers.

🏄 Swimsuits & Water Gear
Bring at least two swimsuits—you’ll likely live in them. A rash guard or surf shirt is also great for sun protection if you plan to surf or SUP.

🧴 Sun & Bug Protection
Nosara has strong sun and plenty of nature, so bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and good insect repellent (especially in the green season). We also recommend aloe vera gel just in case!

Bonus Gear:

  • Dry bag or waterproof phone case
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Headlamp (power outages do happen)
  • Travel yoga mat if you like your own

Want to enjoy Nosara without overpacking?

Book your stay at Casa Cielo or Casa Mar—our two peaceful casitas just minutes from the beach and perfectly set up for barefoot simplicity and pura vida living.
